ATTENDING INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL COURSE 2024, BINTANG TOEDJOE PROMOTES GINSENG TISSUE CULTURE AS A FEATURE

Jakarta – On January 6 2024 PT Bintang Toedjoe sent its representative as a speaker at an international event organized by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), titled the International Virtual Course with  the theme “Plant Biotechnology on the Production of Secondary Metabolites”.

The initiative undertaken by Bintang Toedjoe aims to enhance the self-sufficiency of ginseng herbal raw materials for both local consumption and export. This alligns with the growing in demand for ginseng extract raw materials each year. Consequently, PT Bintang Toedjoe is actively developing tissue culture technology to reduce and ensure the dependence on imports to provide ginseng raw materials.

Key advantages of ginseng tissue culture technology include increased efficiency in the planting period in a better way, improved raw materials quality  through standardized metabolite targets, reduced dependence on imported raw materials and support for  the Indonesian Government’s effort in terms of economic independence in traditional medicine raw materials.

The research on ginseng tissue culture technology, conducted at the Kalbe-Ubaya-Hanbang Bio Laboratory, Surabaya, as a form of collaboration between PT Bintang Toedjoe, Surabaya University and Hanbang-Bio, Korea, has proven to be able to produce powdered ginseng with a harvest period of two months.

Through the initiatives mentioned, Bintang Toedjoe aims to maintain good sustainability of raw materials to support the supply of products in the future.
