Commemorating World Pharmacist Day, PT Bintang Toedjoe through Komix Herbal Provides Herbal Education to Students in Manado
Manado, September 24, 2024 – PT Bintang Toedjoe, through Komix Herbal, celebrated World Pharmacist Day by holding an educational event for high school/vocational school students in Manado. Carrying the theme "Generasi Sehat, Generasi Herbal: Saatnya Gen-Z Mengenal Herbal!" (Healthy Generation, Herbal Generation: It's Time for Gen-Z to Get to Know Herbal!), the activity held at SMA 1 Manado was attended by 50 representatives of students from various schools, who received educational materials from Indonesian Pharmacist Association (IAI) of North Sulawesi, Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (FDSSA) in Manado, National Anti Narcotics Agency of North Sulawesi Province, and Manado Post.
This event aims to increase awareness of the younger generation regarding the importance of health through the use of herbal medicines. apt Gerald Rundengan, S.Si., MPH., Chairperson and speaker from IAI of North Sulawesi, Dagusibu is an activity to provide information on how to properly obtain, store, use and dispose of medicines, including herbal medicines.
"Consult with a pharmacist at the pharmacy to get medicine, including herbal medicine, which is safe, beneficial and good quality," he said.
In his presentation, the Head of National Anti Narcotics Agency of North Sulawesi Province represented by Terry Tikoalu, S.Sos., said that schools have a role in the P4GN (prevention and eradication of drug abuse and illicit trafficking) efforts by sharing herbal medicine information with the surrounding environment.
The Head of Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (FDSSA) in Manado represented by apt. Dra. Sarinah said that in the use of medicine including herbal medicine, one must pay attention to Cek KLIK, "Check the Packaging, Label, Marketing Authorization, and Expiry Date of the medicine or herbal medicine that will be consumed," he explained.
In addition, the importance of journalistic ethics is also a concern for Gen-Z in relation to herbal medicine. Angel Rumeen explained that the media plays an important role in disseminating health information, including herbal medicine. The risk of spreading hoaxes about herbal medicine is false information that is spread to mislead, either with the intention or ignorance. Public education, increasing digital literacy and responsible media use.
Evanie Noer Putri, Public Relations & Community Development Manager of PT Bintang Toedjoe, added that education related to herbal medicine is very important. "Herbal medicine has now become an important part of alternative medicine in Indonesia. Therefore, we must ensure the safety, quality and also the efficacy of herbal medicines on the market that we will consume," concluded Evanie.
Komix Herbal is a herbal cough medicine made from natural red ginger and lagundi leaves. Lagundi leaves (Vitex Negundo) are one of the herbs that contain active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and triterpenoids which have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and expectorant properties. Because of these properties, lagundi leaves have been used in traditional medicine to relieve coughs.
