Ubaya Receives Laboratory Equipment Grant from PT Bintang Toedjoe to Strengthen Tissue Culture Research Innovation
PT Bintang Toedjoe, a subsidiary of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe), has donated a range of laboratory equipment to the Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Surabaya (FTB Ubaya). A total of 32 assets were handed over, including a bioreactor with its utilities, reverse osmosis system, dryer, compressor, HPLC, laboratory oven, shaker, and AHU installation. These tools will be utilized to advance tissue culture research on ginseng raw materials and red ginger seedlings, representing state-of-the-art technology in Indonesia.
Ubaya Rector, Dr. Benny Lianto, emphasized that this collaborative research support is aimed at strengthening the quality and excellence of research in health, food security, and energy security. “We truly appreciate PT Bintang Toedjoe’s commitment in supporting research-based innovation programs at Ubaya through this donation of laboratory equipment and technology for the Faculty of Biotechnology. We hope this collaboration will continue to produce more innovations that positively impact society, the nation, and the country,” he stated.
In response to this support, Ubaya is committed to reinforcing its research and innovation ecosystem by expanding collaborations with industries, government, and alumni. “We invite our alumni back to campus to contribute to research and innovation programs through proposed research topics. In this way, the outcomes of research will provide direct solutions to challenges faced by businesses, industries, and society,” Benny added.
Fanny Kurniati, President Director of PT Bintang Toedjoe, explained that the donation reflects the company’s ongoing dedication to education and research, building upon the partnership established in 2017 between the University of Surabaya, PT Bintang Toedjoe, and Hanbang-Bio Korea. “We donated this laboratory equipment to Ubaya because we believe that in Ubaya’s hands, advanced tissue culture technology can be optimized. This effort is also for the progress of Indonesia, ensuring independence in raw materials and reducing dependence on imports,” she explained.
