Rumah Maggot by BEJO Jahe Merah Becomes a Waste Management Solution and Community Empowerment Initiative in Sukamahi with Kalbe Consumer Health
RUMAH MAGGOT by BEJO Jahe Merah Becomes a Waste Management Solution and Economic Opportunity for Sukamahi Residents Together with Kalbe Consumer Health
Sukamahi, April 7, 2026 – In an effort to raise public awareness about waste management while creating economic opportunities for the community, Kalbe Consumer Health (KCH), through its Creating Shared Value (CSV) program, collaborated with Sukamahi Village to organize a Community Development initiative titled “Maggot Cultivation & Waste Management: Waste Solution, Community Opportunity.”
This initiative marked the culmination of a three-month program consisting of public education campaigns and land renovation processes supported by KCH. The site has now been developed into Rumah Maggot by BEJO Jahe Merah, serving as a community-based facility for organic waste management.
The program also reflects KCH’s commitment to creating sustainable impact through its flagship brand, BEJO Jahe Merah, which is not only recognized as a trusted herbal health product but also actively engages with communities through environmental and economic empowerment initiatives.
The event involved active participation from local residents, particularly the RT 001 community, as well as representatives from the Sukamahi Village administration. The program began with opening remarks from representatives of KCH, village officials, and local community leaders, all of whom expressed support for community-based waste management initiatives.
During the main session, participants received education on the importance of managing both organic and inorganic waste, along with an introduction to maggot cultivation as an innovative solution for processing organic waste. Maggots, which are larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF), are capable of decomposing organic waste quickly and efficiently while also providing economic value as livestock feed and fertilizer material.
As a tangible demonstration of commitment, the event also included the official handover of Rumah Maggot by BEJO Jahe Merah to community representatives. The facility is expected to support sustainable organic waste management within the neighborhood. The program continued with a direct visit to the Rumah Maggot site for a symbolic inauguration ceremony, giving participants the opportunity to observe the maggot cultivation process firsthand.
The Head of RT 001, Mr. Endang, expressed his appreciation for the initiative.
“We would like to thank Kalbe Consumer Health for facilitating the Rumah Maggot by BEJO Jahe Merah program. We hope that residents will become more aware of the importance of sorting and managing organic and inorganic waste. Through maggot cultivation, we see this as a practical solution that the community can implement together to create a cleaner and more beneficial environment,” he stated.
Through this program, KCH hopes that the community will not only understand the importance of waste management but also be able to transform organic waste into something valuable both functionally and economically. This initiative represents a concrete step toward supporting a cleaner environment while improving community welfare, in line with the spirit of BEJO Jahe Merah as one of KCH’s flagship products that continues to contribute to the health and well-being of Indonesian society.
As widely known, BEJO Jahe Merah is a herbal product made with premium Jahira ginger, providing extra warmth and effectiveness in relieving common cold symptoms and body discomfort. The product is manufactured by the renowned pharmaceutical company PT Bintang Toedjoe (a Kalbe Company).
